MAINE LANDSCAPES

MATINICUS TRIPTYCH

The segmented tree paintings are a bow to the habit of walking in all weather and all seasons.  The rhythmic movement of the body, the inevitable passage of time, the filtering of light and shadow, the experience of repetitive seeing, the meditations that percolate in the mind are all part of this documentation. The scroll is one attempt to portray this phenomenon, the segmentation is another.

Painting water and how it relates to things that do not move has many facets. Tides, waves, reflections all keep the experience alive with action.

The Belfast Piling series is tidal. The Float series references the head waters of the St George River as it passes around the Union Fairgrounds and then from Round Pond through to Seven Tree Pond in Union, ME.

Oil stick landscapes are all created on site. This experience is never static. Light and energy resonate through the sensations of working in the moment.
